Lincoln 48 PAC Tough Day on Girton Gravel Pit
The annual charity/social/inter region PAC event between Notts and Lincoln was held at Girton this year. Arriving at the venue i pair up with Andy to target the north bank as the wind had blow in to that end all week and we hoped the bait fish would have followed the wind.
As we began to set up in the chosen swim we were reminded that being out on the bank at the crack of dawn has its advantages. The sun rose through layers of cloud and displayed vibrant colours across the extensive pit silhouetting reeds along the bank.
Spreading the rods at different differences we worked hard in the deep swim, injecting baits, bait boating to un-accessible casting areas, experimenting with different baits, balling out chum, 'stringering' baits, using live baits, stuffing baits with chum but unfortunately to no prevail. The fish were clearly not in the swim we had chosen as we could confidently say at the end of the day we covered what felt like every inch.
Although it was a blank it was nice to spend the day with Andy who happily shared lots of advice, rigs and tactics some of which i will definitely be combining with my current approach. Often fishing with another angler can be a uncomfortable experience though this was a joint effort to try and get a run. I certainly went home a better angler than i arrived and hopefully i can get another session in with Andy sometime soon. (Hopefully this feeling is mutual and i didn't talk the hind legs off a donkey all day though i suspect i did!)
