A New Chapter: Bait Testing...

I have had some very exciting news this week, I have taken up a fantastic opportunity to become a bait tester for a new company called Ambergris Baits.

Based in Lincolnshire, Ambergris Baits target specimen barbel and carp. Initially there will be 4 flavours to choose from, these have already caught numerous fish for company founder Nick Coulthurst, with more flavours being developed currently.

The flavours combine classic components that appeal specifically to barbel and carp, however I am positive other species of fish will be equally attracted to them.

The flavours are:

Orca
This bait contains: low temperature fish meals, soluble pre-digested fish meals, milk proteins, yeast, hydrolysed animal proteins, garlic, hemp oil, CLO, elevated levels of liver and nutmeg powder and finally a Frankfurter flavouring. The Orca is also available with the Frankfurter flavour replaced with a sweet essential orange oil, specifically focused as a carp bait.

Minke
This bait contains: low temperature fish meals, Antarctic krill, souble pre-digested fish meals, milk proteins, elevated levels of belachan, spices and fennel with a subtle crayfish flavour.

Beluga
This bait contains: low temperature fish meals, soluble pre-digested fish meals, milk proteins, elevated levels of green lipped mussel extract, hydrolysed poultry protein, sardine and anchovy meal and finally a kipper and caviar flavour with black pepper oil.

Moby
This bait contains: high quality milk proteins, peanut meal, maize protein, CLO, real caramel and real peanut butter. This bait contains no synthetic flavours and is a very sweet and milky bait.

All of these baits are available in: 10mm or 14mm barrels, and 12mm or 16mm boilies; Ambergris Baits also do glugged hookbaits, boosted hookers, glugs, pop ups, pastes etc... in your chosen flavour.

Receiving my first batch of Orca and Minke earlier this week the initial impression of the baits was outstanding. Lightly vac packed as to not withdraw anything from the baits, they were all precisely rolled with consistency throughout. Using a high quality thick plastic bag and heat seal, the baits were presented beautifully, unlike other companies on the market who's packaging lets them down, Ambergris Baits excels.

I will be initially testing the Orca and Minke and opening up the bagged baits, the smells released was impressive and instantly gave me confidence in the baits, I am sure the fish I will be targeting will defiantly be seduced by these flavours.

I am very much looking forward to getting out on the bank with the rod tips pointing skywards and Ambergris Baits poised at the business end.

  1. Hi Lewis, the new boilies and paste sound interesting. Do they have a website? Also are the boilies hard or soft?

  2. Hi Nathan,

There currently isn't a website but there will be one launched very soon. The boilies are quite soft, they break when squeezed between two fingers and don't need drilling, a needle push's through no problem. The paste has been the real standout for me, it breaks down and ooze's with attractants for long periods.

I will keep you updated on when the website is launched Nathan.

All the best and tight lines.

  3. Hi Lewis, Thanks for that. I look forward to hearing something in the near future. They sound ideal. I don't like rock hard boilies for barbel/chub fishing to be honest, so that's good news.
