Jack Manic On The BBZ Spro...

Having moved house throughout the Christmas period I haven't had that much of a chance to get out on the bank as much as i would have liked. My first proper session back was on the estate lake with Rich. Setting up in a bay with a shelf dropping to around 12ft following the contours of the lake edge to the left of the swim whilst to the righ the shelf flattens out and slopes into 2ft of water.  As usual Rich was first to wet a line and got a follow and take juts from the bait flags on his bottom treble whilst making sure he was at the right depth. A week earlier Andy has lent me a 8 inch BBZ Spro perch pattern which we mounted up to my lure set up, 6 turns on the spool later and the rod hooped over and a small Jack was landed. For the next 30min or so myself and Rich simply had a cast each and received follows or takes on nearly every cast landing numerous jack.

The indications that they were on the feed were good so it wasn't long before the deadbaits were injected and cast around areas sprayed with choppy. An hour passed with no idication though it was clear the jacks were still present and disturbing bait fish in the swim. Leap frogging to the left of the swim we made our way around the lake again reciving a number of follows and takes in each swim on the BBZ but no action on the deadbaits.

After 3 or 4 moves my swinger finally dropped and I lifted the rod into what felt a good fish, this however was short lived as it spat the hooks and left me paused in motion with the braid held between my fingers to see if it would return and pick up the heavily injected mackerel.

It was clearly not a day when the bigger fish  were on the feed though i find this difficult to believe with how active the jacks were, could they be holding in a different area of the lake to where we have found them in previous years, time will tell.
