Lincoln 48 PAC Event On Toft Newton Res 2013...
Well after last years success on Toft with a new PB i was very much looking forward to getting back out an tempting a big stripey or two that hold around a certain feature in the reservoir. Having had a full year to read up on dropshotting techniques i had a better idea of what i was doing this year and left the 12ft 3lb test curve rods at home and went for a much more subtle lighter option.
My boat partner for the day was Nick and this was in fact our first chance to get out on the bank/boat together, after i had been using Nick's bait (Ambergris Baits) from the beginning of the river season.
Using a selection of soft plastic shads and worms in different patterns we hoped we would find one that the perch would home in on and strike confidently.
After moving several times around the holding area which is a pipe that runs out to the centre of the reservoir we found several deep holes that after a few cast and tweaks guaranteed a take. Landing perch after perch using 10lb fluro carbon mounted with 2 size 1/0 specialist drop shotting hooks. Surprisingly we only picked up two trout throughout the day with us each landing around 30 perch. Nick managed a new PB at 1-10 and this was followed up by 2 fish at 1-09 whilst i was a specialist at picking out the smaller fish!
