On The Estate Lake Again...
After landing 2x 20lb plus pike in the last session on the estate lake, we decided to fish a different area to give the main swim a rest. Setting up in a sheltered bay, we could clearly see shoals of small roach darting and jumping every couple of minutes as jack pike pushed them into the shallows. I fished at distance using a simple leger system with a large herring and a bob float leger system with a sardine just off the shelf. The alarm soon sounded on the large herring rig as I watched the monkey climber notch off its pole, with the size of the bait i was expecting to strike into a heavy fish but alternatively a jack pike had picked up the dead bait across its mouth and had made no intention to swallow the bait; a small jack pike of around 8lb was soon unhooked and returned. I cast out another dead bait and after putting this rod on the rest i twitched the other rod moving the sardine around 2ft and before I had chance to put the rod back on the rest the bait runner had engaged and was being stripped of line. I struck into what felt a bigger fish to the first jack, however it came to net easily and a 13lb 4oz pike was soon on the matt and returned quickly. The swim then went quiet and we decided to head out of the bay and try a different area where we had caught in the previous season. Unfortunately the pike seemed to only have one feeding spell and did not come back on, we fished until dusk and then headed home.
